Girl Power on Display 2024

Participants Introduction:

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Loess Hills Branch

AAUW is a nonpartisan national organization that works to enhance and encourage women and girls to reach their potential realizing education is the great equalizer in societies.

Schools involved are based on where AAUW members reside. Pottawattamie County Schools and Harrison County, Woodbine School.

Purpose: Honor one girl per middle school (Middle School fifth through eighth grade girl) who displays perseverance in overcoming obstacles in her private, academic or extracurricular life.

Example: A girl who has overcome family/personal/academic issues such as, but not limited to: immigration, language barriers, bullying, loss of parent, physical or emotional handicap, poverty, legal issues, etc.


Ceremony: Honor girls at Girl Power on Display hosted by AAUW Loess Hills Branch

Thursday, April 18, 2024 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm open house with program around 5:00 pm with a keynote speaker.

Iowa Western Community College Looft Hall Council Bluffs Campus.

The honoree will receive a monetary stipend, certificate, and goodie bag contingent on her attendance at the event on April 18.

Invitation: Loess Hills Branch members welcome the girl’s family, friends and school officials.

Designate School Contact: Middle School Principal or Counselor or other school staff.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide name of girl being honored
  2. A paragraph about why she was selected by March 1, 2024. (ex. I have seen remarkable gains in her school performance. I attest that she has overcome significant obstacles. Include grade, age, and school. Please don’t violate confidential information).

3) Name and address of parent or guardian.

(Contact information is for the sole purpose of invitation and gaining required permissions). Loess Hills member will ask parent or guardian permission for a picture of the girl and the paragraph to be displayed at event.
